STILL STANDING: SANDRA IS SOLE SURVIVOR
Thirty-nine days, 16 castaways, four tribes, dozens of broken alliances, a quitter, a grandmother who isn't really dead, and now, one Sole Survivor! Sandra Diaz-Twine, the 29-year-old office assistant from Ft. Lewis, Washington, captured the million-dollar prize. In the gut-wrenching final Tribal Council, Sandra pleaded to the Jury that she went along with whatever alliance would have her without asking questions. The Jury agreed in a 6 to 1 decision, making Sandra the Sole Survivor and the recipient of the one million dollar prize.

Del Toro: "21 Grams" Makes you Think

NEW YORK, Jan 15, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Actor Benicio Del Toro admits he, too, was initially confused by the fractured storytelling technique of the film "21 Grams."

"The script was very much ... Chopped up like that," Del Toro told UPI`s Karen Butler recently.

"When I saw the movie, the first 35 minutes, I was like, `Huh?` But in a good way. It just pulls you in. I don`t know if this story was told in a linear fashion if it would have the same pull. It could, but I don`t know if it would. The fact that there is a side of you -- because this is a dark movie -- but there is a side of you putting this thing together. Making you get involved. Making you think. Not only about the soul and this and that, but think about the plot."

The Oscar-winning actor earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination Thursday for his portrayal of a Bible-thumping ex-con who alters the lives of numerous people in "21 Grams." The story is often interrupted by flash-back and flash-forward sequences designed to mimic how people process experiences and memories.
